Last Saturday at the ungodly hour of 04:30 six other vegans and I assembled at Pen-y-Pass in Snowdonia to attempt, as far as we know, the world’s first vegan ultra-marathon. We aimed to cross three mountain ranges, and climb every peak in Snowdonia over 3,000 feet. But I had little idea what I was really letting myself in for…
Somehow I survived to tell the tale though, and my photos
are now online. Thanks very much to everyone who sponsored
our attempt. We've raised nearly £5,000 to help Sea Shepherd protect the world's whales and other marine creatures!
In my ARZone interview
just published, “Andrew talks about his book The Costs and Benefits of Animal Experiments, the problem of vivisection, the use of other animals in veterinary schools, vegan ultramarathons and fitness, and much more. Approx. 44 min audio podcast.”
I also include some interesting ultramarathon training tips involving vegan chocolate cake!
Three dog breeders in the UK have just been given 25 week jail terms and banned from keeping dogs for life, after keeping dogs in disgusting conditions, and burying puppies alive. The story is at http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/9428139/Breeders-who-buried-puppies-alive-are-jailed.html
Yesterday Voice of Russia radio London interviewed representatives from the RSPCA, Blue Cross, myself from Animals Count
(a British political party for people and animals), and the Editor of Dogs Today
magazine about dog breeding in the UK. It was a lively 30 minute discussion, in which we all condemned such irresponsible breeding and called for stronger UK legislation to deal with unscrupulous breeders and encourage much more responsible pet ownership.
If interested, you can catch it at 16.30 and 18.30 London time today 31 Aug on DAB 23/7 or via their live streaming link http://player.streamtheworld.com/liveplayer.php?CALLSIGN=RUVR_ENG
